The Science of ThermiVa

How and Why ThermiVa Vaginal Rejuvenation Works

ThermiVa rejuvenation treatment enables women to address internal and external deterioration of the vagina that occurs as a result of childbirth and the natural aging process. The benefits of ThermiVa therapy include tightening of vaginal muscles, reduction of sagging, an increase of vaginal moisture, enhanced ability to orgasm, and urinary incontinence relief.

ThermiVa applications employ a process of electro-coagulation using radio-frequency energy to gently heat tissue. The Thermi company, part of the Almirall pharmaceutical group, is a leading global manufacturer of temperature-controlled radio-frequency technology for medical and aesthetic applications. Thermi technology is based on the “Science of Heat”, and ensures the optimum therapeutic temperature is delivered and, more importantly, maintained, as tissue is gently heated to revitalise collagen.

The “Cement” of the Body

Collagen is the “cement” of the body that holds everything together. It is a protein comprising amino acids formed by nitrogen, carbon, oxygen and hydrogen, and is crucial for the skin to maintain its elasticity. Collagen is a part of the connective tissue in the skin that promotes firmness, suppleness and continuous rejuvenation of skin cells. It also protects the skin by blocking environmental toxins, pathogenic substances, micro-organisms and cancerous cells. As we get older, collagen production reduces, and cell structures deteriorate, so the skin becomes thinner and more prone to damage.

ThermiVa contracts tissue to form a tighter mass. It encourages collagen regeneration and may help in tissue and nerve healing. Although ThermiVa is a revolutionary break-through in vaginal remedies, it is based on well-proven practices. Radio-frequency treatments on muscles and tissue have been used in physical therapy for decades.

Safe, Effective and Comfortable

Vaginal rejuvenation is achieved by means of a ThermiVa radio-frequency generator that powers an S-shaped hand-piece electrode – specially designed for use in and around the vagina – to tauten internal and external vulvovaginal tissue with a temperature-controlled tip. Patients report feeling at ease during the procedure.

ThermiVa vaginal rejuvenation therapy is now available, with a personalised treatment plan, at the Medical Aesthetics Center of Dr. Frank Fechner, in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Dr. Fechner says: “The introduction of ThermiVa represents a major development in the treatment of vaginal problems caused by childbirth or the natural ageing process, including menopause. These conditions can be significantly detrimental to a woman’s quality of life, and we are pleased to be able to offer this new, non-invasive, non-surgical therapy.”

The clinic’s assistant director, nurse practitioner Audra Henley, added: “Many women suffer from vaginal looseness, dryness or general genital irritation, and our team of medical aesthetics specialists have fully embraced the ThermiVa concept of treatment so we can help even more women to reclaim their youthfulness.”
